Montane Shrublands
Colorado Blue Spruce

The Blue Spruce adapts in the Montane Shrublands with its shape and design. The Blue Spruce can grow anywhere in the Rocky Mountains and more from Colorado to Wyoming. It can grow up to 75 feet in the wild, but when in parks and gardens, it rarely grows to 49 feet. it can live up to 600-800 years! It is very thick and dense, with horizontal branches. The bark is greyish, but it’s branches are a little more colored. The tree is designed like a cone for protection against rain because it with just roll off the “cone” instead of fall straight down. These evergreens function poorly in full shade and waterlogged or dry soil conditions. This tree is great for the birds and squirrels since it is a good spot to build their nests and homes because it has strong branches and a good “hideout” being of the good coverage of the branches. This is how the Blue Spruce adapts to the Montane Shrublands.
The blue spruce is often used for Christmas trees across the U.S. and Europe.
